Memberships at Studio Sumi

We offer two types of memberships; in-studio and at-home

  • you have at least 6 months of pottery experience and have taken at least 1 workshop or class within the last year

  • you are looking for a space where you can work independently

  • you are open to experimenting and learning new skills and sharing with others forming a community with fellow creatives

In-Studio Memberships

Shelf Size: 36" x 16" x 16" - $275/month

(founding member price, only 2 shelves left. Prices will raise in 2025)

Shelf Size: 24" x 16" x 16" - $250/month

  • Open studio 7 days a week from 6am-midnight (open during all major holidays)

  • Personal shelf space to store work and tools

  • Unlimited use of studio glazes

  • Unlimited community firings with an option to rent out the kiln to do larger personal firings (additional cost)

  • Full use of community tools and speciality tools for both throwing and handbuilding

  • Studio Hours for at-home members: Wednesdays from 12-5pm, Saturdays and Sundays 11-5pm

  • unlimited use of studio glazes during dedicated studio hours

  • during studio hours members can also use the studio tools, wheels, slab roller, and drop-off/pick-up pieces

  • you have clay experience and can work independently at home

  • you are looking for a studio where you can fire your work consistently

  • you want the flexibility of working at home but would like the option of using a studio space during dedicated hours to have access to more tools and glazes

- $200/month

Membership Perks

for both In-Studio and At-Home memberships

  • 1st month of membership you receive a free 25lb bag of clay

  • Discounted tickets to workshops at Studio Sumi

  • Special gold lustre firings for members only

  • Open Studio sales twice a year (winter and summer) for members to sell their work

  • We fire to Cone 6 oxidation

  • There are 2 Shimpo VL-Lite wheels available and 4 large work tables for clay work or glazing

  • In house clays available for purchase ($19 per 25lb bag): speckled buff, B-mix, B-mix with grog, B-mix with speckles, WC-617 porcelin, Nara 5, B-3 Brown (black clay), Red Velvet (formally known as Navajo Wheel)

  • Shimpo mini slab roller available for handbuilders

JOINING & FEES

In-Studio membership has 2 different shelf sizes: Shelf Size: 36" x 16" x 16" is $275/month and Shelf Size: 24" x 16" x 16" is $250/month and At-Home membership is $200/mo with a 3-month commitment to start, providing you with an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in our ceramic studio community. After the initial commitment period, you can enjoy the flexibility of a month-to-month membership.
