Private Events at Studio Sumi

Looking for a creative, hands-on experience for your next group event? Whether it’s a hang out with friends, a kids’ birthday party, or a corporate team-building session, Studio Sumi offers private handbuilding pottery workshops designed for groups of 6-14 people. Our workshops are perfect for both kids (kindergarten and up) and adults, giving everyone a chance to explore their creative side!

Customize Your Experience

Choose from popular handbuilding projects like mugs, vases, or pinch pots, or leave it up to us to create the perfect workshop for your group. Each 2-hour workshop is $90 per person (extra charges for groups 11+ and for full studio rental) and includes all materials, tools, and guidance from one (or two) of our expert instructors.

What is Handbuilding?

Handbuilding is an approachable way to work with clay, where you use your hands and simple tools to shape and form pottery—no pottery wheel needed! It’s the perfect introduction to pottery for beginners and offers plenty of room for creativity. You'll roll, cut, and shape clay into your project of choice, and with the guidance of an instructor, you’ll bring your piece to life.

What to Expect

Your instructor will guide you step-by-step through the entire handbuilding process. At the end of the workshop, we’ll handle the rest, including firing and glazing your pieces. Here’s a timeline of what happens after your event:

• Day 1: Pieces dry for about 1 week.

• Days 8-11: Bisque firing (3 days).

• Days 12-19: Glazing each piece (1 week).

• Days 20-23: Final glaze firing (3 days).

• Pick-up: We’ll email you to schedule a pick-up time once everything is ready—typically 3-4 weeks after the workshop.

All-Inclusive Experience

• All clay, tools, glazes, and aprons are provided.

• Feel free to bring drinks, including alcoholic beverages, to enjoy during your event!
