Bring Your Favorite Animals to Life: Create Handmade Holiday Ornaments!

Adorn your tree or home this holiday season with handmade clay ornaments shaped like animals! In this fun and creative 2.5-hour hands-on workshop, you’ll design, build, and decorate your own unique animal ornaments—perfect for the holidays or gifting to someone special.
What to Expect:
Guided Clay Building: Your instructor, Helen, will guide you through the process of handbuilding animal-shaped ornaments. You’ll start with a slab of clay, cutting out shapes, attaching pieces, and creating layered designs to give your animals dimension. Each participant will make around 3 ornaments, with each ornament measuring about 3-4 inches in size.
Personalize Your Creations: Use various handbuilding tools to add texture, lines, and patterns that bring your animals to life with character and personality. Animal templates will be available for inspiration, or you can design your own! Whether you're crafting a playful puppy, a majestic bird, or a whimsical woodland creature, the possibilities are endless!
Decorating with Glaze: Once your animal ornaments are shaped, they’ll dry slightly before you apply colorful glazes to decorate and give them a polished, festive look.
What Happens Next:
After the workshop, your ornaments will dry in our kiln room for about a week before the first "bisque" firing. After that, we’ll apply a clear glaze and fire them again for the final touch. Your pieces will be ready for pickup in 3-4 weeks, and we’ll email you with pick-up instructions.
All Materials Provided:
All tools, clay, and materials are provided, including aprons to keep you clean while you create. Just bring your creativity! This event is BYOB, so feel free to bring your favorite holiday drinks to enjoy while you work.

Instructor Bio:
Helen is a ceramicist in San Francisco. She picked it up as a hobby during the pandemic 3 years ago and has stuck with it since then. She loves making functional pieces and infusing their magic in every day life. You can find her and her frogs on Insta at @helenspots.

First Class
Please arrive about 5 minutes before the class begins to check in and find a seat.
Age Requirement
The classes are paced for and primarily booked with adults, but students 16+ can sign up with a guardians permission. If you have any questions please email bri@sumiware.com.
Cancellation Policy
To request a cancellation or refund, please email bri@sumiware.com. Refunds requested more than one week prior to the class date are fully refundable or you can reschedule to a different class. Refunds requested within one week from the class date are 50% refundable. No refunds are given within 24hrs of the start of class. Should a class not fill sufficiently, it may be cancelled 24hrs prior to the class date and full refund will be issued to those enrolled. Thanks for understanding!
