Clay Canvas: Design, Paint, and Glaze Your Own Piece!

Come learn the art of painting on ceramics using underglazing techniques! Led by the talented and experienced potter Mariana, this class is perfect for anyone who wants to transform their pottery into a personal work of art.

During the workshop, each participant will receive a cup or plate in its greenware stage—unfired clay that’s ready to be painted and decorated. Whether you're a beginner with pottery or more advanced, this class will guide you in exploring creative designs, from playful patterns to simple shapes or bold colors.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • How to apply underglaze to create vibrant colors and smooth surfaces.

  • Tips for layering colors and creating textures using simple tools.

  • Techniques for adding details through carving or sponging to bring your design to life.

  • Ideas for abstract or minimalistic designs, perfect for those without drawing experience.

By the end of the class, you’ll have a beautifully painted piece that reflects your personal style—whether it's a colorful pattern, bold shapes, or something totally unique. This workshop is ideal for anyone wanting to experiment with creativity on clay, regardless of painting or drawing experience.

After you’ve completed your creation, we’ll take care of all the firings, including applying a clear glaze to make your piece food-safe, as well as microwave and dishwasher safe. In 3-4 weeks, we’ll send you an email when your piece is ready for pick up at Studio Sumi!
