🧑‍🎨 Tweens Pottery + Art Camp (Ages 12–16)
Where creativity grows up—but never gets boring.
Let’s be real: tweens want more than finger painting—and they definitely don’t want to wake up early. That’s why Studio Sumi’s Tweens Pottery + Art Camp starts at the very reasonable and teen-approved hour of 10:00am. Sleep in, roll out of bed, and head to the studio to make something awesome.
This weeklong camp blends handbuilding, surface decoration, and pottery wheel time with mixed-media art projects like painting, illustration, and creative journaling. It’s relaxed, creative, and a little bit messy—in the best way.
Psst—multiple weeks = more fun.
Each session is different, with new themes and materials to explore. Tweens can sign up for both sessions and keep the creativity flowing.

Meet Rae – Our Lead Summer Camp Instructor!
Before she could even talk, Rae was already painting and drawing—art has always been her first language. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a background in design, Rae brings a wealth of experience, creativity, and care to everything she teaches. After moving to the Bay Area in 2021, Rae discovered her passion for sharing art through teaching. She’s taught at a private art school in Los Gatos and now calls San Francisco home, where she continues her art and teaching journey at Studio Sumi.
Rae’s superpower? Inspiring kids to express themselves through a wide range of mediums—from ceramics and sculpture to printmaking, watercolor, and drawing. She’s also passionate about fiber arts, quilting, and exploring themes like nature, city life, and family. With her warm, engaging style and years of teaching experience, Rae makes each day at camp feel exciting, safe, and full of possibility. She lives near Alamo Square with her husband and their two very charming beagles.
🧑‍🎨 Tweens Camp FAQ (Ages 12–16)
Is this camp for beginners or more experienced tweens?
Both! Our instructors tailor each day to the group’s comfort level. Some campers may have prior experience, others may be new to clay or art—we keep it flexible, supportive, and inspiring.
What will they make during the week?
Campers will create functional and artistic clay pieces using handbuilding and wheel throwing. They’ll also explore mixed-media projects like painting, illustration, or creative journaling.
Do they need to bring anything?
Just a water bottle and a snack or light lunch. Since this camp runs through lunch, we take a break around 11:30am to eat and relax. All art materials, tools, and aprons are provided.
How big is the group?
We cap our tweens camp at around 6–10 campers to keep things calm, focused, and fun.
Can they listen to music while they work?
Yep! We welcome headphones or light shared music while they create—campers just need to be able to hear the instructor during demos and group check-ins.
When do they get their finished work?
We’ll send you an email about 3–4 weeks after camp once everything has been glazed and fired. Their pieces will be food-safe and totally display-worthy.
Can my tween sign up for more than one week?
Absolutely! Each session has different themes, materials, and projects to explore, so no two weeks are the same.
What’s the cancellation policy?
Cancellations made more than 7 days before camp are eligible for a full refund, minus a $55 admin fee. Within 7 days, we offer a 50% refund (minus the fee), and after camp begins, we’re unable to issue refunds.
