Pinch Pots & Pennies: Create a Ceramic Piggy Bank- April 15th
Tax Day Got You in a Mood? Come Make a Clay Bank Instead.
Whether you’re celebrating a refund or crying into your calculator, join us on Monday, April 15th from 6:30–9:00pm for a hands-on workshop where you’ll craft your very own piggy bank. It’s the perfect way to wind down on Tax Day—because if the IRS is taking some, you might as well save what’s left in something adorable and handmade.
What You’ll Do:
Pinch & Build: Start by forming two pinch pots and learning how to score and slip them together to create the round, hollow body of your bank. This is a classic and beginner-friendly handbuilding technique that’s fun and easy to learn.
Sculpt & Attach: Once the form is set, you’ll sculpt and attach little legs, snouts, ears, tails—or anything your piggy-bank-loving heart desires. Classic pig? Go for it. Bunny bank? Why not. Weird little blob guy? Yes, please.
Cut & Customize: Use a template to carve a coin slot at the top and optionally a hole at the bottom for a rubber stopper. It’s your bank—make it work how you want it to.
Surface Design & Glaze: Finish off your piece with carving tools or colored underglaze for some playful surface design. You’ll also choose your final glaze color before we take care of the rest.
Why Handbuilding?
Handbuilding is a relaxing and beginner-friendly way to explore clay without needing a pottery wheel. It lets you slow down, experiment, and create something functional and full of personality.
After Class
We’ll take care of the drying, glazing, and kiln firings. Your finished bank will be ready for pickup in about 3–4 weeks—just in time to start stashing coins for your next tax season. You’ll receive an email with all of the pick-up details.
All Materials Provided | BYOB
Everything you need is included—tools, clay, aprons, and creative guidance. You’re welcome to bring a beverage to sip while you sculpt.
