$75.00

Make Your Own Ceramic Mug Workshop

Get your hands dirty and dive into a night of creative fun! On Tuesday, April 29th, from 6:30-9pm, learn the art of slab-built ceramics and craft your very own ceramic mug at Studio Sumi.

In this 2.5-hour, hands-on workshop, you'll be guided through the entire process of making a unique mug that's perfect for coffee, tea, or even ice cream (because why not?). Each mug will hold about 10oz of your favorite drink.

What to Expect:

  • Slab Construction: We'll start with the basics of slab-building, a versatile and traditional pottery technique. Instructor Helen will guide you through cutting the pieces for your mug’s walls, base, and handle, using templates and tools to get those clean edges and perfect proportions.

  • Assembly Techniques: Learn how to securely join the clay pieces using scoring and slipping. Helen will demonstrate how to align your mug's walls and attach the handle to make sure everything is sturdy and functional.

  • Painting & Glazing: After a brief drying period, you'll get creative with vibrant underglazes to paint your mug with colors and patterns that reflect your style.

Once your mug is complete, we’ll handle the bisque and glaze firings. Every piece will be finished with a clear, glossy, food-safe glaze. Your mug will be ready for pick-up in about 3 weeks.

Supplies Needed: None! We provide everything—clay, underglazes, tools, and aprons. Plus, you’ll get hands-on assistance and step-by-step instructions from Helen.
