Handbuilt Vases: Form Meets Function- April 20th

$75.00

Spring blooms deserve a handmade home

As spring ushers in vibrant farmers markets across the Bay Area, it's the perfect moment to bring that freshness into your home. Join us on Sunday, April 20th, from 1- 3:30 p.m., for a 2.5-hour workshop where you'll craft a personalized wrap-around vase, ideal for showcasing the season's abundant blooms.

What You'll Do:

  • Shape Your Vase: Using pre-rolled large slabs of clay, you'll form a cylindrical vase by wrapping the slab and expertly joining the seams. Our experienced instructor will guide you through scoring and slipping techniques to ensure a strong, seamless structure. (your vase will measure approximately 6" in height and 3.5" in diameter)

  • Personalize with Surface Design: Enhance your vase by exploring various surface design techniques.

    • Carving: Utilize specialized tools to etch intricate patterns, textures, or motifs into the surface of your vase, adding depth and personal flair.

    • Clay Attachments: Learn to cut out additional clay pieces using cookie cutters or by hand, then attach them to your vase's exterior. This technique adds dimensionality and unique character to your creation.

  • Select Your Glaze: End the session by choosing from a variety of glaze colors to finish your piece. Our team will apply your selected glaze and handle the firing process, resulting in a functional and beautiful vase ready for display.

Why Handbuilding?

Handbuilding is a foundational pottery technique that encourages creativity and offers flexibility, making it an excellent starting point for those new to working with clay. It allows you to craft functional and decorative pieces without the need for a pottery wheel, focusing instead on the tactile and intuitive process of shaping clay by hand.

After the Workshop:

Your masterpiece will be carefully dried and kiln-fired by our team. We'll notify you when it's ready for pickup, typically within 3–4 weeks.

All Materials Provided | BYOB

We supply everything you need, from tools to clay. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage to enjoy as you create.
